Round 2's AMT Klingon D7 Battle Cruiser

My first impression of this kit upon opening the box is, hmm not a lot of parts but what is there are nicely molded.

This kit is the Collectors tin Reissue of AMT's Klingon D7 Battle Cruiser, released by Round 2.  Scale is about 1/650. 

In the box there are approximately 44 parts, which includes one sprue of chrome parts, one upgraded Waterslide decal sheet.

The original kit was issued in the late 1960's, AMT built 2 models for the series and photographed one of them to make the model kit. This kit has been reissued time and again.  Now Round 2 has the molds and have improved on them some with this new release. 

What Round 2 has done is to change a few details on the kit to make it look more like the studio model from series. They have removed some raised panel where the wing meets the upper hull, Detail on the rear warp nacelles has been retooled, the 'intake' grille on the front of the shuttlebay / sublight engine housing has been retooled, and the decal sheet now has Klingon and ICS markings along with the addition of window decals for the model.  One last thing Round 2 changed the display stand to a round dome base which required the mounting hole in the model to be moved to its center of gravity

From looking in the box, this kit will require some careful fitting and some sanding and putty.  The only real con I can see at this point is in the directions, they are very basic, consisting of an 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper printed on both sides.  There are 2 diagrams of assembly steps and one small inserted step 3 for the decals which is kind of hard to read, and there are no painting suggestions.
